the stuff of thought

In the beginning of this article I believed it was going to be about 9-11 but it turned out to be something much different. Yes 9-11 does relate to the real topic but only introduced on part of a bigger whole. The article goes into the idea of semantics, which is how words relate to behavior and how humans interpret them. One does not realize that the littlest difference in a sentence, down to one word can give a thought complete different meaning. It is said that words are "continually circular" each word is defined by words defined by others. Words can always be up to debate on what there true meaning is.

Videos

Video 1-
At times I was lost on what art he was referring to, because I had no previous knowledge of the art he recreated. He seemed to have a great deal of back round on Piero della Francesca however. Milton was also humorous at times and although his work is good he said he was embarrassed at times. I enjoyed the way he took the original portraits and recreated them as his own with interesting ideas.

Video 2-
In the beginning he shows a series of pictures that are comedic when he tells the story of their origin but also interesting to see how he finds them interesting. He finds that intuition is very important when making art. David finds that it can't be taught and you must be born with it. A lot of his art as he shows it involves nature and quotes that not necessarily are about nature but solidify a point he is trying to convey. I like how he was a surfer before hand, and I really like his new bathroom symbols signs. It's very interesting that he was a sociologist beforehand with no prior design experience.

Video 3-
All four artist deals with things we consume everyday.
Michael Ray charles deals does very comic book like and graphic portraits. He studies blackness, which all stared with a figurine he had received from a friend. All his work seems to come from a great deal of research and history. His is also very family oriented and cares a great deal for his children.
Matthew barney is a filmaker/sculptor. A lot of his performances and customs scare me to death and seem completely crazy. He has a series called cremastor which is driven from a sexual idea. His work, although creepy to me is compelling and I find myself not able to look away from the video even though I'm somewhat disgusted by what he creates.
Andrea Zittel is also very weird. She builds structures that are compact that include anything a person would need to live. She had high hopes for these types of works but when she was finished she felt depressed. Another weird attribute she has is that she wears the same thing everyday and only changes it four times a year. It seems dirty but she actually is extremely clean and organized.
Mel Chin started spawn where he takes the structure of abandoned and decayed houses and recreates them. He wants to make something that is living after he is gone but also reclaim an icon. Mel also work within the digital world here he creates this alternate realm of mazes made with carpets. He also is very interested in the environment  and makes a "science-art project" where plants are used to recreate a certain space.

Jeopardy man vs. machine

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YgYSv2KSyWg

In this episode the first round of the game seems to show that both men and the computer are equal in intelligence. One of the men is even winning over the computer and one is tied at the end of the round. As the game progresses however the computer steals the game and is leading both men in over 15, 000 points. When final jeopardy comes around one man comes close but the computer wins it in the end. It was really interesting seeing man vs. machine. There were a couple of instances where the computer got the answer wrong which was interesting to see.

Art 21

http://www.hulu.com/watch/65249/art21-art-in-the-twenty-first-century-romance#s-p1-sa-i0

All four artists deal with their version of romanticism. Laurie simmons started at a photographer who then moved on to finger puppet performances then ultimately to life size puppets in films. She even produced a movie with meryl streep as her lead actress! Towards the end she makes a play of ballet with the dancers are objects with legs. Lari Pittman is a painter who creates fake worlds in his paintings free of interpretation to anyone. None of the painting are curtailed to a curtailed group of people and our relatable. He also very attracted to religious portraits even though he is an atheist. Another object he is interested in is cactus's he has planted in his garden which frequently show up in his work. Judy pfaff works with many material but is mostly a sculptor and painter. The show focused on in her segment was one that revolved around loss since most everyone she loved had died the year before. There are a lot of contradictory pieces such as one's involving light and darkness and others of fire and water. Pierre Huyghe goes across the great channel in search for a land mass and craeture that he has hear rumors of. He then recreates what he had seen in a show in central park. What he has seen is represented by music and lights. He also works with puppets where he makes a movie about himself and the struggles he faced with in his art. Lastly he works with documentaries involving the movement of animals then finally humans.

TAZ response

A temporary Autonomous zone is a place of free culture and society. An anarchist wrote this passage, wanting to break free from our government and limitations it upholds. This uprising does not have to be obtained through war and violence but could maybe resort to that if needed. These zones are, until that rebellion is secured, places where people can meet and do whatever the please. These places are designed so anyone can do what they want free of the government’s restrictions. They are areas of “Psychic nomadism” where one is free to let their mind roam. These little movements emit intensity and give meaning the entirety of life. As long at these brief periods exist, a difference is made. The authors point is not to change consciousness but to change the world. TAZ is neither exclusive nor replacing all types of organizations. It provides the quality of enhancement with uprising. The plan is not to have one big overtaking but temporary outbreaks with no permanent ending. This movement is supposed to create a type of utopian environment for those with in it. Some of this movement will be achieved through the Internet but not totally, and it will not be the only source of assistance.
This article relates to our project in that we are creating our own world. We decide what it looks like, who it runs and what it consists of. This creation contains only things we want it to. A free world, and perfect society or “utopia” to us.

how to kill a mocking bird in your first blog.

What is your computer experience?
Not much with the arts.

How do you feel about the technology in the arts?
It seems interesting and I would like to learn how to use a computer to create works.

What is you favorite movie?
That is a very hard question, I feel as though watching movies is a hobby of mine. V for vendetta, Shawshank redemption, The Island, Green Mile, Forrest Gump, Skeleton key and Gothika are some of my tops.

What is your favorite book?
 To kill a Mocking Bird.

Write a 5 line story about yourself.
I was born on May 31, 1992.
I grew up in Warminster, Buck County, P.A.
Green is my favorite color.
I want to live in New York city eventually.
I love hot sauce.
